Why it matters more on European cars
On many BMW, Audi, Volvo and Land Rover models, a new key is written using data stored in a body or key module. When a working key is present, the car accepts a new key with fewer steps. When the last key is gone, the module often has to be read first, which takes longer. A spare made today avoids that.

Original or aftermarket
